Central Bank and BIS Announcements

Headlines from the Bank for International Settlements, the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of England, gathered from their public news feeds. Central banks set the rules that tokenised money and blockchain payments have to work within, so what they publish is worth following.

Why central bank news matters for blockchain

Almost every serious tokenisation or digital currency project depends on a central bank somewhere in the chain: settlement happens in central bank money, rules come from supervisors, and experiments are often run by the central banks themselves. The BIS Innovation Hub, for example, has run joint projects on wholesale central bank digital currencies, tokenised deposits and cross-border payments, which we summarise in our guide to BIS Innovation Hub projects. The European Central Bank and the Bank of England have both published design and preparation work on a digital euro and a digital pound, and the Federal Reserve regularly issues statements on payments and supervision.

Reading the primary announcement beats reading a summary of it. A press release states exactly what was decided, on what date, and what was left open. The links above go to the publisher’s own page.
